Unfortunately, there’s no rule book for the most important responsibility in the world – being a parent! We’ve collated a bunch of tips to give you a hand.

Look after yourself first! There’s a reason why you’re asked to put on your mask first before helping others on a flight. The same goes for life. If you’re ill or down, the first person who suffers after you is your baby. So, be the rock.

Don’t expect things to go as per plan. We all love to plan, anticipate and prepare. But while doing all of that, also tell yourself that there are emergencies, last-minute-changes and more when there are kids.

Always read to your child. Reading and discussing a book together is the most bonding activity after having a meal together. Both you and your child are connected and enjoy the book together.

Trust your gut feel. The one thing nature prepares us for, as parents, is emergencies. Most parents always feel something’s wrong when something is actually wrong. So head to the doctor when you feel it’s the time.

Accept your mistakes. There’s nothing wrong in accepting mistakes in front of your child. Don’t feel pressurized to be the perfect parent in front of them. We’re all human. And accepting mistakes also shows your child that they too should own theirs.

Create traditions as a family. It’s lovely to create and follow your own family tradition. Traditions help make great memories and also give kids something to look forward to.

Learn to say ‘no’. It’s the toughest thing for a parent to do. But saying no at the right time is very important while bringing up kids.

Stick to your words. If you promise ice-cream on Friday, make sure you do it. By not keeping promises, you teach your child, that it’s ok to break them.

Celebrate small thing as often as possible. Small celebrations make life worth living. Even if it’s just a Sunday lunch eat it in the yard and pour our juice in special cups. It doesn’t take much to celebrate!
