Tips for a Beach Trip with kids

Come summer and we’re all headed for the beach! But amongst all the excitement, all parents are apprehensive about melt downs, tantrums, fight over toys, packing, forgetting, missing things and more. We’re all human and a slightly imperfect vacay is ok!

But, we’ve culled together a tiny list that can help you sail through a beach trip this summer!

Book a stay near the beach. Yes, this gives you complete access and an easy one at that. I even know parents living in beach cities who do a staycation near the beach just for the pure convenience of it all!

Don’t forget the drinks and snacks. Never leave snacks behind. Kids always get hungry and thirsty in the sand, and the last thing you want to do is go looking for some, or worse still return to the hotel to grab some.

Cream yourselves! The sun is beautiful but harmful. It’s best to apply sunscreen on kids while at the hotel itself. My kids run away from creams while on the beach. An umbrella offers great shade as well.

Pack those shovels and buckets. No one can resist making a sandcastle while at the beach. And remember to vest your little ones, in case they wander off too deep into the sea to fill their buckets.

First-aid kits are important. Bandages, ointments, wipes, burn creams and sprays are a must. Scraped knees and elbows need to be attended to on the sand.

Leave your phones behind. Yes, you can’t take photos but imagine snoozing a bit on that mat while your little one fiddles with your gadget, or drops it into the water. We’ve done that too! And the phone is too much of a distraction on the beach.

Be there early to get the best spots. It’s important to choose a good spot, where there’s sufficient sun, but it’s not too hot. Usually beaches are not crowded in the mornings and it’s easy to find a fav spot for the whole family.

Play together. Nothing’s more fun that the whole family spending time together. There are loads of family game options – beach volleyball, frisbees, collecting shells on the shore and more.

The beach is the most enjoyable spot for families with kids to make great memories as kids learn and grow. Relax, play and enjoy the sun and sand!
