As of January 1, 2020, the long-awaited increase in parental allowance will be implemented.
The government has approved the increase of parental allowance from 220 to 300 000 crowns. The increase in parental allowance passed the first reading in the Chamber of Deputies. According to the proposal of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the increase is applicable for all parents receiving a parental allowance and new births. Parents receiving this allowance can expect an increase by CZK 80000. “Currently the proposal of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is in the Chamber of Deputies. It will be discussed in the third reading. We expect it to be approved in time for the increase to take effect from next year,” says Kristýna Křupková, spokesperson of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Then the amendment will go on the table to the President of our republic.
Parents can decide how quickly they want to use up their parental allowance. They can choose the amount and duration of withdrawal. This year the government approved an increase in parental allowance from the current CZK 220,000 to CZK 300,000.
However, the increase of CZK 80,000 cannot be used up all at once. It will be distributed proportionately over several months (depending on the amount the parents are set to receive).
If you want to increase the monthly parental allowance, you will have to apply to the Labor Office of the Czech Republic.
The total amount of the parental allowance will amount to CZK 300,000 in 2020 . Parents can change the length and amount of the allowance once in three months and can benefit from a parental allowance up to four years of the child’s age.
