Baby Giraffe at Prague Zoo

A little female Giraffe was born last Friday, January 25, 2019. She is the 83rd giraffe cub, born in the Prague Zoo.

Her mother is Farah is from Switzerland, who arrived in Prague in 2009 at the age of two. Father Johann was born in the Netherlands shortly before Christmas 1999. According to the livestock breeder Bars Kantorova, the cub behaves very calmly, even phlegmatically, while the mother is nervous all the time.

On Tuesday, she joined the herd at the Prague Zoo African House. Farah closely followed her offspring in the group. “The newborn female very quickly became comfortable, and, seeing how willingly she posed for the photographers present, the zookeepers gave her a working nickname Model,” the zoo speaker Lenka Pastorchakova said in a press release. “For the time being, she likes attention,” agrees Kantorova.

The director of the Prague Zoo, Miroslav Bobek, on his Twitter account wrote that camera shutters on Tuesday were clicked more often than on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival. The name of the new star he and his subordinates already know, but visitors will have to wait a couple of weeks.

“Livestock breeders choose names for giraffes according to a certain rule: they look at which names are suggested on the calendar for two weeks – a week before and a week after the birth of a cub. And they simply choose the one they like the most, ”Bobek said.

The last giraffe born in the Prague Zoo before last Friday was Anna, born on August 4, 2016.
