On one hand we’re trying to reduce chaos, clutter and plastic while on the other we hit the stores during holiday season to but gifts and toys for our kids.
Kids get bored of toys
Toys are great, educational and creative. They help kids grow and develop well. But after a point, kids forget to play with actual toys and play on their own or with other kids or pretend play. And then the toy is just lying in the room, till we decide to declutter or donate.
Experiences help spend time with kids
Our busy lives offer us less opportunities to spend time with our kids. Whereas an experiential gift makes us take time out to connect with them. For instance, taking your kid out to his favorite pancake place, means that you all enjoy a great time together! Or taking a cooking course together, will not just teach them cooking, but also remind them that you’re involved in all their learning processes.
Experiences make memories
When you do/ create something with your child, this memory remains in his head for a long time to come. For instance: ‘Momma dropped the sugar all over while we were decorating the gingerbread house and I licked it all up!’ That’s something they’ll never forget.
Experiences are eco-friendly
An experience doesn’t really need wrapping paper, sticky tapes, packaging boxes, ribbons or more. Which means there is that much less trash in the environment.
Experiences are sharable unlike toys
When you gift an experience, kids can choose to take along anyone they want or do an activity together with a friend. It isn’t necessary that experiences are always with parents. An experience with a friend will help kids build stronger bonds of friendship.
Experiences offer more gratitude
When you receive a gift, you get it for a single time and are happy for that moment. But when it’s an experience, you get to be happy twice – once while receiving it and once after the activity is completed. And of course, all the fun in between while enjoying the activity. So, with an experience you’re giving more happiness.
