Who does not like a good old garden BBQ party! It’s one of the best activities you can do, if you aren’t going away for the summer. It’s a great staycation activity, right there, at home, but outdoors. And you can invite family, friends, neighbours or colleagues. Everyone brings in something to grill, plays games and shares their goodies together. Here’s our list of quick BBQ safety tips as a ready reckoner:
- The basic thing to keep in mind while grilling is the location of the grill – where you place the grill matters. Make sure that you grill outside the house and away from any structures like trees, patios. Ensure that kids and pets do not play around near the grill especially when it is hot.
- Ensure that your grill is stable. Place the grill on a flat surface. Wobbly grills can topple over from the weight of food and coal. And this can start a fire.
- It is important that the grill should be clean. Fat buildup or leftover grease ruins the equipment. Once the coal cools off completely, you can dispose it.
- Keep a bottle of water handy (or a fire extinguisher), next to the cooking area in case of an accident.
- Check the gas for leaks and don’t turn on the gas before you open the grill lid. This causes a gas buildup.
- Do not put too much meat on the grill all at once. It causes the grease to drip and flare-up.
- Use proper grilling equipment, heat-resistant gloves, and long handled utensils.
- ALWAYS keep an eye on the cooking area, it should be supervised at all times.
For a safe BBQ season, clean and maintain your equipment regularly!
