June Festivals and Celebrations Outside Prague

As a capital city, Prague, has a lot to offer when it comes to festivals and celebrations, especially during the Summer. However, so does the rest of the country and isn’t summer just the best time for travel? Here are a few ideas for Summer festivals all over Czech Republic you should definitely consider going to!

Lužánecký Guláš Fest 

When: June 1, 10:30-20:00 hours
Where: Lužánecká 7, 602 00 Brno

Are you a fan of guláš? If the answer to this question is an easy yes, then you should definitely visit the Lužánecký Guláš Fest. This festival is a great opportunity to taste a variety of guláš (and other) recipes, as well as participate in competitions. How fast can you eat guláš, for example. You will be able to witness some music, dance shows and theatre.

In addition to that, there is a special program and activities for the smaller visitors, such as a climbing wall, funicular, mini-tennis, jumping castle with a slide, face painting and many games.

How to get there:
By car: From Prague, you need to drive onto Route 50 for about 2 hours. Then, you need to take Exit 190 towards Výstaviště, drive onto Route E461 and Route 42, until you reach Exit 2 towards Sportovní, which will lead you directly to the venue.
By bus: FlixBus goes directly from Praha Florenc to Brno. Then, you need to take tram 1 (Řečkovice a) to Antoninska stop and walk about 5 minutes to the event venue.

Children up to 140 cm: free

Feasting at the castle Švihov

When: June 2, 10:00- 19:00 hours
Where: Vodní Hrad Švihov

The feast at Castle Švihov is a gastronomical festival, which takes place annually in the historic place. At the feast you will be able to taste a wide variety of dishes, which will represent the cuisines of countries and regions from all over the world. There will be available space for picnics, and in addition to all the delicious food, there will also be a special program accompanying the event. There will be music, yoga classes, as well as workshops for both adults and children.

How to get there:
By car: you can reach Vodní Hrad Švihov town by driving onto Route E50 and then taking exit 80 towards Route 27/E55, which will take you directly to the city.

Children under 6: free
Children between 6 -18, students between 15-26 and seniors over 65: 130 CZK
Adults: 200 CZK

The Five-Petalled Rose Festival

When: June 21-23
Where: Náměstí Svornosti 2, 38101 Český Krumlov

The Five-Petalled Rose Festival is a unique celebration which brings its visitors back to Medieval times. Held every year in Český Krumlov, this festival is not to be missed. Part of the program are Gothic and Renaissance parades, knight tournaments and theatre. There will be chess with live figures, historical crafts and markets, numerous games, street plays, fencing duels, medieval costumes, dance and music!
This annual festival is a cheerful and fun experience. A wonderful idea for a short summer trip.

How to get there: 
By car: drive onto Route D1, then turn right onto Route 3. Finally, you need to turn right onto Route 39 and drive for about 15 minutes more.

Royal Silvering of Kutná Hora

When: June 22-23
Where: Barborská 28, 284 01 Kutná Hora

The Royal Silverning of Kutná Hora is a traditional Gothic historic festival. It creates a unique Medieval atmosphere, with knights, historical crafts, dancing and music, jugglers and more. The city of Kutná Hora was a silver-mining town, and is now on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The festival is a great opportunity to spend a fun weekend, where you will also be able to learn more about the town history and traditions.
Everybody attending the festival can come in self- made costumes.

How to get there:
By car: Drive onto Route 1, then take exit 1 on the roundabout towards Route 101. Turn right towards Route 2, which will take you directly to the town of Kutná Hora.
By train: Take train line Prague – Brno and take off at Kutná Hora Central Station. You need to take another train to Kutná Hora (approximately 10 minutes) and from there it is a 15 minute walk to the festival’s venue.

International Folklore Festival Strážnice

When: June 27-30
Where: Castle 672, 69662, Strážnice

This Summer festival is a great opportunity to spend a few days away in a wonderful international atmosphere. The festival held annually for the past 74 years. It has a rich program of music and traditional dances from many countries. With a specific focus on children, the festival will offer activities and performances dedicated to kids of all ages. There will be special creative workshops and activities aiming to introduce folklore to children, and many children’s ensembles will perform. In addition, there will be an open-air museum, an amphitheatre, castle building and fun competitions!

How to get there:
By car: You need to drive onto Route E50 until after you bypass Brno. Then, you need to take an exit 210 to Route 50. Drive onto Route 54, turn right onto Strážnická/Route 426, which will take you directly to the castle. The trip should last approximately 3 hours.
Parking: 100 CZK per day
